They’re Not My Kids

Recently, the biggest lessons I have been learning have been from a two year old named Max and a three month old named Ruby. They are two of my housemates and they are quite possibly two of my favorite people in my life right now.

They greet me with giggles and smiles as I come home from work everyday,

Max makes the perfect painting buddy because of the loads of excitement he carries 24/7,

Ruby has shown me that lying on the floor is quite enjoyable when you’re with a little human that you love dearly,

and they both demonstrate the love of Jesus everyday whether they know it or not.

I never thought that living with another family would be as big of a blessing that it is but I consider this a gift that most people haven’t been given. I have been blessed with the opportunity to see two people raise their family centered around Christ and watch them empower their children (even at three months old) to be their own person and to seek Jesus with their entire being.

I smile every time I see Max peeking as they hold hands to pray as a family and my heart is warmed as I see the genuine love that Max has for his baby sister, Ruby. Those are the moments that remind me of God’s character. Not only is He a God that has deep care for us that is embedded into His being but he also like to be playful and silly with us. So, even though Max and Ruby are children that may seem a little clueless to what’s going on in the world, the Lord even uses them to teach me lessons and remind me of His great, great goodness.
